What is celerity, from Ivanhoe?

Celerity is swiftness in acting or moving; speed. You see the Latin root celer (swift) in other words such as accelerate and decelerate.

. . . Gurth defended himself against the attack, keeping his hands about a yard asunder, and covering himself by shifting his weapon with great celerity, so as to protect his head and body.
