The humanities are the branches of study concerned with human thoughts, emotions, and relations. They are often speculative and subjective — as opposed to empirical, fact-based sciences like physics and geometry — and include topics such as art, literature, music, philosophy, languages, and history. You might say that if you want to better understand what it means to be human, you will ultimately study the humanities.
