Summary and Analysis Book 5: Sir Tristram De Lyones: Alexander the Orphan

After Tristram's defeat of the men of Sessoynes, Mark's brother Bodwyne defeats a great army of Saracens. Jealous of Bodwyne's valor, Mark murders him and tries to murder his wife and child as well. The child, Alexander, escapes and grows up in a distant country. When he is old enough to be knighted he goes after King Mark, but he is sidetracked first by Morgan, then by love and the game of challenging knights for the increase of his own glory. Mark gets the chance to strike first and murders him.
