A common misconception about writing is that the first draft must be perfect. A first draft is rarely a final draft. Even the best writers create multiple drafts before they are satisfied with their writing. In the first draft, you should focus on the introduction, connecting ideas within paragraphs, and the conclusion. No matter what the topic is, you want to have a strong opening and closing.

A good introduction catches the reader's attention and provides an overview to the topic. You can interest the reader from the start by using quotations or stories, posing a question, or stating an opinion or interesting fact. Paragraphs develop a single idea in a series of connected sentences. A unified paragraph stays focused on a single idea and is coherent and well developed. Your final statement should bring all of your points to a logical conclusion.
