Character Analysis
Antonio
Antonio is a serious boy whose search for understanding is precipitated by several events in his life. He is searching for models to follow as he embarks on a quest for his destiny. Although many clues to the answers to his questions are provided in his dreams and in his life, he has difficulties understanding the world around him. To a great extent, he is a passive spectator of events rather than a person of action. Due to his incapacity to understand the world around him, he serves as an instrument of fate and others' wishes. In the end, he discovers that the world is incredibly complex and life is immensely difficult, and that he must assume independence of thought and responsibility for his actions, but these truths come through understanding one's self and one's history.
