Summary
George Ferris, the young Pittsburgh man, has given his third proposal for a structure to outshine the Eiffel Tower. This time, he has the financial backing of investors and many influential men. The committee finally agrees to let him build his structure in the midway, and immediately Ferris writes an engineer in St. Louis to enlist his help with the project.
Analysis
This chapter signifies another conquest for Burnham. He has finally found something that will top the Eiffel Tower of the Paris exposition. The enduring impact of the fair is evident: Even today, the Ferris wheel is a favorite feature in amusement parks all over the world.
